A Network Instead of a Vault

I love what I just read on a Mark Vamos Fast Company blog posting from the Davos World Economic Forum.

In discussing "user generated content " - now referred to as UGC - Mark Vamos reported that Jeff Jarvis, editor of the Buzzmachine.com said that going into Phase 3 of USG - companies needed to see themselves as "a network instead of a vault."

Brilliant. Spot on. Great analogy!

This is right in line with my thoughts that event web site will evolve into feeling more like a cocktail party than a virtual brochure with a tad bit of ecommerce such as online reg and planning tools.

As event organizers we really have to get 3 dimensional in our organizing of of value offer--- and craft of websites to match this 3D effect. By 3D, I mean really have some depth to our offer to help network and connect attendees.

Any thoughts on this matter?
